Description:
Set of three falls along a sandy, swampy river. Furthest downstream is a set of small drops that barely form foam. Middle falls are the largest and form even drops over gentle sandstone bumps. Upstream falls are multi-tiered and small with a pitted sandstone riverbed.
Location:
Houghton County at 46°48' 41.77" N, 88°45' 14.06" W (map)
Nearby Falls:
West Branch Sturgeon Falls (6.4 miles), Hogger Falls (6.6 miles), Prickett Dam Falls (7.2 miles), Wyandotte Falls (8 miles)
Area:
Thick pine forests and recent logging on high ground with ferns and mud on low ground. Plenty of sandy bluffs near the river.
Trail:
90 minutes one-way
Head northwest along the power lines, sticking to the logging roads and ORV tracks, until you are within a few hundred yards from the river valley. There will be a trail that heads to the left into the woods. Follow trail a short distance until it starts to turn to the left, then head right off of the trail until you hit the river. Try to stick to high ground along the left bank of the river, although you will have to ford it to avoid trespassing. A cabin is located at the lowermost drops, and a large creek enters the river right above the uppermost drops.
Drive:
51 mins from Houghton, MI (change)
