Quincy Falls
- Conditions:
- Cool, cloudy, breezy, some recent rain
- Companions:
- Logan, Steele
- Vehicle:
- Jeep
Steele and I both needed a break from the weekly grind, so we got Logan and headed north to Quincy Falls, a small series of drops near the infamous dredge of Mason. I had been to these falls earlier in the summer and hoped that they would be even better with the fall colors.
Parking on the east side of the old mining ruins, we hiked in and walked through several of the buildings. This area was once a very busy mill for several of the mines in the area, and the drying building alone was impressive. After clamboring around the buildings for a bit, we headed to the old railroad grade, then down the steep slope to the falls.
Quincy Creek was running a bit better then I expected, though not as full as my last visit. The leaves made the going very treacherous, though, as the creek itself is often too varied and dangerous to just walk through the water. Logan also was being a pain, probably because of the narrow canyon walls. We didn't make it up to the upper falls before it got too dark for pictures or safe hiking, and headed up the wall to the network of small trails running along the creek. By the time we got back to the vehicle and on the road, the stars were well on their way out.

This was definitely a fun trip. I think it would be even greater to try to see this in the Spring.

Totally! Though I think it would be incredibly wet as well, as we had to pretty much climb the dam waterfall on our hands and knees.
